Germany’s consumer price index rose 1.4% in March compared to the same month last year, according to data published by the country’s statistics office, Destatis, on Thursday. However, the rate decreased compared to 1.7% recorded in January and February. Meanwhile, inflation increased in March by 0.1% month-on.month.
The consumer price index for food and non-alcoholic beverages led to the rise in the overall index as it jumped 3.6% compared to last year. The restaurant and hotel consumer price index was up 2.7% while clothing and footwear prices rose 2.5%.
The harmonized index of consumer prices for Germany in March increased by 1.3% on an annual basis, while it went up 0.1% compared to May.
